Open Beta Testing Begins!

Postby Walter » Mon Oct 25, 2010 12:54 am

We are proud to open our registration to the public, and we welcome all of you to the Open Beta test. We're still implementing a lot of exciting features, which I will detail below, but in the meantime, look around on the forums or the help guides available to you.

So what is Two Out Rally?

It's a simulation / roleplaying game where you assume the role of a player that you build and customize
to your specifications, from baseball skills to his background to his personality. Earn bigger salaries and spend your money on a lavish lifestyle or a grueling training regimen, while acquiring special upgrades (Gamechangers - coming soon) to separate your player from the pack and emulate your favorite baseball legend.

If you're looking for an even bigger challenge, run a team and execute different strategies that maximize the strengths of the player, all the while keeping the fans happy and earning enough money to improve your stadium and making your franchise more attractive to free agents. And do it all within the confines of the unfolding story of the World Baseball League. Can you make it to the Hall of Legends? You've taken your first step towards finding out.

Updates:

New League Type - Open

This update features the Open League type. This league type introduces the Intangibles Effect (where roster balancing affects performance), as well as advanced strategies for human run teams (the human run test league will, in fact, be an Open League type)

Improved Contract System

The contracts have been improved to indicate the terms of the agreements by league type, and the ability to review them.

Team Forums

Each team you join should automatically put you in a related Team Forum, where you can discuss strategy and team issues away from prying eyes, to best plot your path to victory.

Note on the Forums

You'll note that there is a "Testing" forum where you can't post or reply to existing topics. This is our group of core
testers who have agreed to help us perform quality control on our new features as they go live. These topics are open
for your review because of competitive balance issues: we don't want any group of players to have access to a database
of information that you do not, potentially giving them an unfair advantage. If you'd like to join this group of testers,
just be active on the forums and in game, and we'll frequently be looking for players to help us out. So when you see
a call for testers in the League Headquarters forum, simply reply to the post!

Upcoming Features

A big part of our early Beta test will be testing our ability to handle the traffic to ensure a quality game experience.
We have a number of updates upcoming that will comprise the rest of our feature set, as outlined below, in the order we
intend to introduce them (following their run in the test leagues):

Team Control / Strategies (Testing this Season)

We will have our first human run league this season, featuring several team owners from our tester group. This will
include testing lineup configurations against various types of pitchers and situational substitutions, as well as free
agent roster building, trades and the trading block. Keep an eye out on your player's contract offers - it's possible
that a human run team can make you an offer to play in the test league, even if you are currently playing on a CPU controlled team.

Gamechangers

This is an exciting collectible card game that you can activate on your players, offering them special abilities, boosts,
forcing events in game, and generally helping to specialize your characters.

Game Replay System

Watch the games unfold event by event, with exciting, action-packed replays, great data and statistics, and the general
excitement of a real baseball game, including a few fun surprises.

The Simulation Leagues and the WBL Draft

As the story unfolds and our first set of players achieve level 31, we're going to participate in our first big event -
the live draft of the elite World Baseball League teams. Similar to your favorite fantasy draft systems, see if your players are good enough to play with the best. Or, perhaps, control one of those storied franchises yourself!

We should be starting within the coming days. Trust me, it will be well worth the wait!

We have to fill up teams and such first :)

As of right now, you cant be unless you were part of the alpha testing. Expect team ownership to come to the beta class after its been double checked to work as intended. From my understanding at least. 8-)

That's right. Team Ownership is being tested live during the season and will be made available as soon as possible. You can follow the various nuances (and bugs) of being a team owner by watching the Tester Forum, which will remain public for all to see.

What type of league will the testing teams be? I know we were told somewhere but I can't find it.

Quick Update:

We're currently building the situational strategy system for team owners, called "Gambits." It's the system that allows team owners to plan how your team handles the bullpen, pinch hitters, and pinch runners. Surprisingly complex, actually--but when it's done you'll see a nice interface that simplifies the process.

After that is complete (if you ask: soon), we'll hand out teams and then allow a free agency period after which the season will begin!

Am I right in assuming that we will have to play another season after this coming one before ANY player reaches level 31? I think I have seen a couple 11's and more than a few 10's after the Alpha season.

Level 31? That's a safe assumption, I think.

I was intentionally vague, Finley. We do appreciate the enthusiasm, and when you realize we're closing in on a couple hundred thousand lines of code (let me check with Travis for the official count), you'll know we're just as excited as you.

I can say that we're counting in days, not weeks, though.
